Here's how the finished art came out on that Stephen king book review illustration. The art director and editor made some changes and additions, so I added in the things they asked me for. The tone is quite different from what I normally am assigned. I usually do light and humorous pieces, so it was a challenge to do a moody and creepy illustration for a change. Hope it looks like a good fit. I'll find out from the art director in the morning I guess.
love it. i really think you should do more like this. its a nice mix of a humorous style with a serious story. makes it more interesting. people try to match up stories with artists too much at times. better when you end up seeing something you don't always see.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark, I was worried that my natural tendencies to make things silly and light would turn the illustration into an awkward fit, but I'm glad you think the whimsical line, mixed with the darker, more muted/desaturated palette keeps it in a creepy zone.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mark- it's good and nice to see something different coming from you. I also like the 4 panel comic approach and palette. You're the color king!
ReplyDeleteDig it man. Where's my track suit drawing?
ReplyDeleteI love yeti nipple.
I have a track suit drawing coming right up Madam. (track suits are just God awful-looking aren't they?)
ReplyDeleteThe creepy Joe is out and roaming the streets of LA. I love the colors. And I too like the panel treatment.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of creepy, how about the track suit? Even the most voluptuous women looks deadly in the best of those bad boys. I'm gonna head over to Martha's blog to see what you came up with.
I'm very pleased to meet you!!
ReplyDeleteNice work, new friend!!!
